I always thought one of the better moves by Richard Kughn was the inclusion of a Post War style set box with the repro Girl’s Train. While the train’s cars needed rivet detail and the caboose needed it’s rivets restored as well, the “Lion Head” box was a really nice touch.
So here’s what I’d really like to see: 1935 era boxes for the 261E set in the new catalog. And a 1935 era set box too!
Come on, what do you think? Is it too late to make this happen?

Excellent idea, Jon! I couldn’t agree with you more! I’m sure everyone buying that set would prefer it that way.
I’m definitely with you on this one, Jon! If they’re going to make a repro prewar set, they might as well go all the way and make repro prewar boxes, as well. Hey Lionel: if you’re listening, a traditional motor in that engine would be nice, too (along with a traditional reverse unit). Tinplate and ozone were meant to be together. [;)]

Well Jon, one thing we all have noticed is that since Lionel has gone to China, the amount of packing material has increased quite a bit. I’d bet with the extra handling and the cross ocean voyage, that packing might be necessary.
On the other hand, when K-Line first went to China, the amount of extra packing was about the same as it was when production was actually in Chapel Hill. Later, K-Line went the extra packing material way, as did Lionel and MTH.
Probably the extra inserts in the boxes (and thus the larger size boxes) reduces the amount of product that arrives for distribution already broken or defective.
I too remember the days of buying a Lionel train car in nothing more than a cardboard box that was just about the size of the train car it contained. Unless a redesign was made in the exterior packaging of the trains (outside of the product box, but within the shipping package) I would think this would be unlikely.
Hello Jon! Sounds like a good idea to me also. It should not be too much trouble to use inserts for the Engine,Tender & Cars as well. On another note a reproduction 1935 Catalog may be icing on the cake to go along with this set or as a separate sell item? Take Care all.
