Puzzlement in posts to threads on this page

I seem to have encountered an odd artifact of MR’s server or software. In Tom’s thread about his impressions of the BLI Mike, it showed, as of a moment ago, that he had responded near 1620 hrs EST. Yet, when I opened the thread, no such reply was presented. This has happened in other threads.

Has any of you encountered the same phenomenon?

What gives? [V]

The thread was probably edited by somebody at the most recent time indicated.

Threads can actually get bumped up by an edit.

I’ve noticed several weird happenings on the forums, such as a name appearing as the last respondent to a post, only to find no such person having responded. Maybe they had second thoughts and deleted their response – I know I have done that a couple of times, but never went back to see if I was then listed as the last person to post a message.

I think that’s the way it works. If you delete a post, most likely you are the last one to edit it. Even if it appears you were never there!

On another BB I use posts seem to get lost frequently. It has the option to display posts by thread or “flat” (in the order they were posted from most recent, not sorted by thread). They will reappear in flat mode. By comparison, this forum is a well-oiled machine.

Crandell,

I can give you an explanation that goes along with what everyone is saying. The reason for the aforementioned time stamp is that I editted my initial post around 4:30 PM this afternoon. If you edit a post at all - even if your post is, say, 10 posts from the bottom - your name is still in the “Last posted” column.

And, actually, I believe time stamp is really synched to CST time. It says that I posted this response at 19:56. It was really 20:56.

Tom

Hey, Tstage, you got your fourth star! Congrats!

Okay, now it makes sense. If you edit a post, even one higher up the thread, it will show that you were the last poster on the main titles page…but will obviously not show a new post when you open that thread.

Got it! Why didn’t I think of that?

Thanks, Tom.

No problem, Crandell. It took a while for me to eventually discover that myself.

Matthew,

Yeah, once you get into the 2nd millenia of posts they give you another one…whatever…I’m not on here for the money and “stardom”…

Tom

Here’s a little known fact about the forums. If you click on that little blue arrow, it will take you directly to the last post in a topic, be it a full post or edit. [8D] It took me more than six months of posting to discover that.

If you delete one of your posts, no trace remains in the topic.

Pesky little blue arrow.[(-D][(-D][(-D] Thanks for the little blue arrow knowledge. Learn something every day.

Cool!..It works! (Actually, I probably won’t use it all that much. I try and read most of the responses before responding to a post myself. Good to know though…[:)])

Tom

I’ve found (in another forum) that polls will show a last poster that isn’t the last entry, rather the last person to respond to the poll.

I had wondered about the “missing” posts myself…not that I’ve had to delete any of my responses…but I do edit them for clarity. Nice to know about the blue arrow…

it’s gotta be tied into the aliens, UFO’s threads - the only plausible explanation… they are after all master modellers [:D][alien][alien][alien][alien][alien][alien]
