Q how do you stop an open tube of caulk until next use?

Dunno, but I haven’t seen a complete answer yet.

I use a big nail throught the cut spout, wrap Saran Wrap around the whole spout and secure it with a rubber band, then place the tube of caulk in a sealed plastic bag.

Otherwise, it will dry out at the flat end.

Golf tee…also comes in handy for plugging up vacuum advance hoses on old cars when you’re settin’ timing. Lots of other uses too.

While this seems like a lot of discussion on a simple task, I’m going to weigh in. I wrap the tip in masking tape. Everytime I stick something in the end of a tube of adhesive (and I’ve tried screws, nails and golf tees), it gets stuck in there so hard I can’t pull it out. With the tape, there’s a little blob of dried adhesive over the end of the tube. This is easily pulled off with pliers, and I’m ready to go.

Lou, you’re right about the variety of uses. I’ve even tried them for teeing up golf balls but there must be some special technique required to get it right as it seldom works very well for that.

Paul, just stick to model railroading. It is MUCH less frustrating!!!

I just let it dry off at the tip. For thext use, I just remove the dried-up bead of caulk at the end and use. If it’s clogged, I use the long metal stick that’s part of the caulking gun.

I use a 16 penny nail. BUT the trick is to have the nail on hand before you cut the tube open so you don’t make the opening too big.
