QSI announces new Titan Digital Command Control (DCC) stereo sound decoders

QSI is taking us to another level in DCC operation. Way to draw the line in the sand!

Note the use of the words “will” and “planned”. Let us know when they’re actually available.

I question the need to have stereo in an N scale loco, a speaker less than three inches away from the other speaker might not give much stereo separation. I’m willing to be proven wrong, but not on my own dime. It seems like HO is pushing it, you have to be right there, it might give good stereo when it’s right in front of you, so it could be very nice, esp for sounds that are different at different ends of the loco, I hope they made recordings like that.

The purported changes & improvements are a bit too geeky for me. I’m still having trouble digesting DCC. Another source reported that the only OEM committed to QSI is Atlas. As was announced earlier, Walthers is changing to Soundtraxx. BLI has already gone their own way and MTH is doing what MTH usually does.

I know on board sound is all the current rage, but is spending as much or more on a sound decoder than the the locomotive it is going into really the best use of your limited hobby dollars? And I am unconvinced by any sound I have heard in N scale.

Now will there be 2 speakers for true stereo in HO?

If it’s still going to take an act of congress to customise CV settings…I’m not interested. Why go through a set of sub-CVs to change one CV setting? It’s just too confusing! That’s why model manufacturers are abandoning QSI. I like my Tsunamis…super easy to program…and they sound great! I will admit that Soundtraxx has some catching up to do in their prototype sounds selection, but they are working on it.

I’m with Brian on this. Having used both products, I’m quite happy and satisfied with my Tsunamis. Even have gone as far to overhaul my Protos from QSI to Soundtraxx. But…since this is an Announcement for the new Titans… It will be interesting to Hear their new series.

A “Tsunami” in the hand is worth two “Titans” in the bush.

One of the main features that got me into dcc was sound. I ended up purchasing about 30 Soundtraxx units, some generic, some 2nd Gen EMDs and was quite happy with them. However, two of my generic units failed to function so I went to my dealer to have them sent away to be fixed only to be told that Soundtraxx would not touch them unless they were Tsunamis. This really got my back up, if this is customer service, then I am not impressed.

It does not appear that the Titan will be able to simulate Stretch Braking (AKA Power Braking). Still waiting for a decoder that will do this.
