David,
I have been on vacation for 10 days. Is this a side by side of an actual Diesel Tsunami and QSI or just a spec sheet comparison?
I just got my QSI’s and will work with them tonight.
Chris
This is assuming that the Diesel Tsunami uses the same processor as the Steam Tsunami.

The real killer is all of these have some features you really like and some you really hate. It’s ashame the “perfect” decoder hasn’t hit the market yet…
Tsunami’s don’t come with speakers??
Thanks for the chart.
Tsunamis have never come with speakers…this holds true for all Soundtraxx products. Sountraxx charges a premium for their speakers. They can be had for 1/5 the price at Mouser.com…just search for Kobitone 8 Ohm speakers.

You have a couple of things on the table which are incorrect IMHO. The Tsunami does in fact use BEMF for the speed control functionality, and the Loksound decoders (actually all the ESU decoders) support 15 levels of lighting intensity.
Good list otherwise!

My SFX0416 came with an 8-ohm speaker.
Having a speaker “included” may be nice for some, but in my case, this large, round speaker would not fit in my application, nor in any other engine that I’m planning to put sound in. So, I ended up paying a bit more for a speaker I can’t even use.
Another thing that would be helpful is a comparison of the output levels of these decoders. My QSI engines have lots of reserve, and I typically run them at less than half volume. My lone Soundtraxx engine is a bit softer, but at 60% I’m happy with the sound. My recent SFX installation, though, is running at full volume and is barely audible over the motor noise of the trolley.
Actually, Tsunamis use something called “Hyperdrive”. It works like BEMF, but it is not a typical BEMF drive.
Ill change the Loksound lighting intensities…thanks for the help.

Not all, only the new addon non-soundbug 165 compatable decoders. The rest are still 32.
Guys, there is no need to copy the origional chart, it is meant to be a work in progress and a visual aid to purchasing a sound decoder. I am going to make changes as I go.

I have Loksound 16 bit decoders. So far I can’t find a way to tell them apart from the 8 bit units as they appear to be physically identical. Some of the boxes are slightly different, but I can’t say for sure which came in which. If you have the programmer, it tells you.
I would be a bit careful here…The LokSound 16Mbit decoder simply has more ‘room’ on the decoder for sounds. The 16Mbit has nothing to do with sound quality, but rather quantity. They still 8Bit sound samples, not 16bit.

Not true. I recently purchased 4 Soundbugs and an SFX4016 decoder and they were all 8 ohm. I spoke to Digitrax in Louisville and they told be everything is coming out 8 ohm now. There may still be some 32 ohm models in the retail delivery channel.

I just pulled one off the shelf, and ill be damned…8 ohms. Thats for the headsup.
