This is the text of an email I received from my chip installer this morning. He has had two of the four upgraded QSI chips I require since about September, but no others seem to be forthcoming any time very soon.
For your info.

Dear Al,
You might want to look at this link
http://qsisolutions.com/products/techinfo/qchip/q-chip-upgrade-codes.html
Per the QSI website the date for that chip is still to be determined. In
our experience, that could mean that it will be released tomorrow, or two
months from now.
I wish I could tell you more, but that is how QSI solutions is handling
the chips. I know that there has been a 4 week moratorium on QSI shipping
of all chips to date because of needed software upgrades. Supposedly that
will end soon. No guarantees on that either. I am sorry not to be more
hopeful. we appreciate your patience and promise that as soon as they
come out, you will have yours.
Thank you for supporting our little enterprise!

Be sure to watch our new web site over the next few weeks. We are planning
lots of neat and unusual specials and products!
Hopefully someone here has more info.
Unreliable, but rumors have been summer 2007. Would be a dream come true!
Selector, thanks for the up date. After I punk down the cash for a new DCC unit I may try one in my Hudson.

Wow, this got resurrected from a way back! I posted this late last year. In any event, the reason I posted it was that I was still waiting for the upgrade to one of my BLI locos, the NYC Niagara. That one came along mid-December and I have been happily running it on the layout since about 30 December.
So, the chips for that loco, at least, are available. The chips for the K4s and the PRR J1 have been out for some time now.
I got the Hudson and Mikado upgrades months ago. But I’m still waiting for the new F-model chips. The QSI solutions website used to say 6/2/2006 for them. Now says TBA. Must be in the same time warp as the diesel Tsunami, eh?
The new chips do improve the running qualties and they probably did not gear up for the addtitional sales that these have generated.
When good things are offered, they will sell./
I just upgraded my BLI C&O 2-10-4 Texan and what a difference it made! Sound is much better and slow speed preformance is outstanding. I’m still waiting on the upgrade chip for my Berkshire and various diesels.
I’m going to try to find the chip extraction tool to use on my next one though. Prying with a small screwdriver works but is too nerve wracking.
Thanks Jim
Hey, Selector
Can you tell me if the Niagra S-1b QSI chip has the option of using the HORN as the Niagras were equipped with?
My Tsunami heavy steam has selectable whistles and includes the SP GS-4 horn which would be an acceptable solution for the Niagra as well but I just wondered if the QSI upgrade also has a selectable horn/whistle?
Thanks, ED
A quick reply, and then it is off to the sack…finally. I don’t believe there is a selection in this chip, but I will investigate and reply later this morning.
Later…
Yes, by all means. It’s only $7.95 from Tony’s, and prying with a tiny screwdriver can damage the socket – then it’s BIG bucks!
Well, it’s a good thing nobody takes my promises seriously! This is much later than I had agreed…sorry.
Yes, pressing F11 key with the new upgrade will alter the whistle on the Niagara to a horn…and nobody will be more surprised than I. Ya learn somethin’ every day if yer alive.
I have not upgraded any of my BLI’s yet. I have a pair of Mikados, and E unit or two and a switcher. I take it that most folks that have upgraded have been happy with the result?
