Today at 5:13pm ACT Queensland North has annouced that it will be ordering 10 new SD70I’s from EMD. These export SD70I’s will feature a lighter axle loading and will be limited to running in only QLD as they are larger than the Australian standard RSU110 loading gauge that the rest of the lines in Australia are built to.
Each locomotive will cost $5.6mil and they will be serviced and maintained by GDRMB.
These locomotives will be added to the QN fleet during the last quarter of 2006.

wLove it!!! great news too for the new locos! I like the paint scheme, is that their current one? A pitty we aren’t going to win the cricket, have to settle with a draw. What is QN current roster like? are they retiring any locos when these new ones come? DD

The SD70I’s will be replacing 10 40 year old GT10C’s from GDRMB.
