You don’t have to use bumpers at the end of your tracks but it does look better and will keep you from oversooting.
Why don’t you want them?

I agree, you don’t need the bumpers at all, no matter how you power your tracks. HOwever, you don’t want the metal rail type to be soldered to the contiguous and powered railroad tracks in any case…they’ll short the system. Many folks just simulate a pile of rubble thrown over the ends of the rails as the prototypes often do. Or build a scale crib of dimensional ties over the ends of the rails, and fill the crib with rip-rap or dirt. You could even fashion a ramp with that setup and make it a flat-car loading dock.
