Question about "FINE SCALE MINATURES"

I just got my new December issue of “Railroad Model”. It has the new FSM kit Jewel series No. 6 “Skimmner’s Row” I told my wife that’s what I wanted for Christmas and she was going to send out a MO. I just happen to go into the websight and saw that they were sold out. How often do thses kits come out? Does George create one every month? Can you call the number and hold one? What I am asking is how does someone get the jump on these kits by George to be sure to get one before they are sold out? [:)]

Thanks
Michael

You might still try looking in area hobby shops. Sometimes stuff sold out by the manufacturer can still be found in the distribution pipeline.

That would be nice if there were any hobbie shops around here. I have to get 98% of the stuff off of Ebay. And they have several FSM kits there for big $$$. I was just wondering how FSM really works as far as there kits are concerned.

Thanks
Michael

All of George’s kits are relatively short runs. A new kit appears roughly once each year. Often there is no longterm warning of a release date and George rarely advertises to any degree (more often in RMC than elsewhere).

Skinners sold out in record time. A recent fly in the ointment has been speculators buying up kits for later resale at huge profits, cutting into the number of kits actually available to modelers who may be slow to place their orders. The best advice for getting wind of a new kit is to join one of the FSM forums so you can keep track of what’s going on and when the next kit might be anticipated. Also, sometimes checking with really large, urban, hobby shops will turn up examples well after a particular kit appears to be sold out.

Sigh…I barely had time to even consider whether or not I could afford to drop the $ on the new FSM kit and it’s sold out? Oh well. I guess that’s how it’s going to go until the speculators can’t turn enough of a profit on them. For me, it just means I’ll have to go without. Thankfully I was able to accumulate quite a few of the older kits over the years. I really do enjoy building them.
