I have read both articles in Model Railroader. Maybe I missed something but I see some pretty wide benchwork and no access holes.
How does he access the layout to place structures and do maintenance etc? Access hatches or walk to top of the layout?
Has anyone here including the MR staff seen the layout in person? Maybe Andy Sperandeo knows?
You may have read the articles but maybe you did not read the line below the layout drawing.
Evidently judging by that line ( circled in red ) there must be some access hatches and either forgot to tell about them or maybe we were not suppose to know. Who knows?

Maybe he has a hoist system and suspends from a cable to work on the layout. [:-^]
