Question about Santa Fe Caboose.

Hi There,

Just starting an N Guage Sante Fe layout in Australia, could someone please give me some idea what year the Santa Fe RR stopped using a caboose on the end of their trains, any help would me much appreciated.

Dave most U.S railroads stopped using cabooses in the mid to late 80’s. I’m not exactly sure of the exact time frame. You can contact the historical society here http://www.atsfrr.com/.

hope this helps

My Santa Fe railfanning has mostly been in the Galesburg Illinois area, so perhaps it is not representative of the whole railroad – but my impression is that the Santa Fe was quicker than most to discontinue cabooses once that was allowed under the union contract – mid 1980s – while for various reasons the BN and Soo and some other railroads would use cabooses from time to time on mainline freights into the 1990s.
