Question about SUNSET BIG BOY 4-8-8-4

I have a friend who is selling 2 of these for $450.00 each. He told me he got them from his fathers collection. He also told me that they have never been ran and the boxes are perfect. Does anyone know if these were good runners, what about detail? I have only 1 other SUNSET and it’s the 4-12-2 below. It runs like a top, quiet, and powerfull. Any help is good. He said they are from the “Prestige Series”, whatever that means.

Thanks

Michael

PLEASE, ANYONE [:-^]

Jump on it before he changes his mind. Old Riv. units are going for $150 to $200 on eBay.

Can’t comment on the Sunset Big Boy, but I can can comment on my other Sunset brass, one of which is an SP AC-6 4-8-8-2. Smooth running, quiet, needs a little additional weight and balance, but that’s easy to install with some lead sheeting. Will probably need a fairly wide (30" or larger) radius, but since you’ve got a 4-12-2, you’ll already know that. I’ve never had any problems with my Sunset brass, and at $450, you’re getting what I would call a STEAL! My AC-6 cost me somewhat more than that about 6 years ago, and it was used. So, in my opinion, I’d jump. And the detail on Sunset locos is absolutely exquisite.

Go for it!

8500HPGASTURBINE to compare apples to oranges I’ve got a couple of SunSet 2-10-2s and an AC 12 Cab Forward that are the cat’s meow if those Big Boys are half as good be greedy and get both (if you can afford to). I agree with the previous posters about the quality and detail of the brand. I have a Tenshodo and two Key Import B Boys and I like them all very much but I can tell you I paid a heck of a lot more for them indivually than your friend’s price for them individually.
