Question about the MTL n scales coupler jig #702

hello i just joined this forum and this is my first question-i have been playing around with an 'N" gauge layout for a couple years in my retirement-unfortunately i had to choose N because of limited space- no complaints though thee is really a ton of stuff available for that gauge-of course my eyes are not what they used to be so occasionally this presents a problem-my biggest problem has been changing some old rapido couplers to MTL couplers-i have been able to muck through on some and some were a disaster-a while back i decided to purchase the assembly jig i mentioned in the topic-well i have tried and tried to get it to do what it is supposed to i.e. help with the assembly of those small couplers and minute springs-no luck i have tried the MTL website looking for videos and the web and you tube nothing! has anyone used this thing for N gauge couplers? it seems to me that the instructions that came with the device are missing something-if anyone has tried this device i would be ecstatic if they would say it worked for them or throw it out
Thanks a million

Welcome to the forum,ncbobzip!

I’m in the same boat – retired, N scale, weaker eyes, etc. I have never tried the coupler jig, but after trying various means of fixing couplers, I gave up. I now buy trucks with couplers installed. It can get expensive doing a lot of cars, but I’m buying a few at a time. The trucks are easy to install, roll well, and the couplers work well. I buy Micro-Trains, and can find them on Ebay sometimes for $6.00 a pair. However, that is after searching – more commonly I pay $8.00 or $9.00 a pair.

thnx for the reply probably going to have to go that route also - just annoying that MTL doesn’t have a video
