Question for Andy S:

The current issue (October '06) MR shows trackwork that looks hand-laid, yet the inside article specify’s “Peco code 75”. (Forget the rail height).

How was prefab plastic made to look like stained wood ties? The tie spacing also looked more American than British? Less talented and Inquiring minds want to know.

Not Andy but you start with brownish paint, then stains of varius colors, rail sides should be stainted rust, then an india ink wash, light wash. After you ballast, some do the wash then, done it both ways. Finally add some oil (not real oil but oil color ) around any moving parts that would be operated and I sometimes do a bit of a streak down the center of the rails.

Don,

I was looking at the article just last night and was wonderin’ the same thing. Sure looks like handlaid track with stained ties to me.
