Question for Birmingham Al Railfans

I am planning on going to Birmingham to watch the Steam Excursion train set to run on June 15th and 16th. It is supposed to run from Irondale to 14th street. I am somewhat familier with Birmingham but I don’t know exactly where 14th street is. I tried Google maps but it didn’t really make much sense to me. Will this train pass by Sloss Furnaces? Will it pass the Irondale platform?

Thanks,

George

14th Street is south of the L&N (Amtrak) station. As I recall, this is the point at which the Amtrak trains pass from the L&N track back to the AGS track, sb, and from the AGS track to the L&N track nb. Yes, the train will pass the Sloss furnaces, which have been idle many years. I remember watching the furnaces in use as Southern #11 passed them in July of 1951.

Thanks for the reply. That’s where I’ll be if I can work it out. Sloss Furnaces is now a museum. I’ll bet is was great to watch back in the day, with the trains like The City of Miami, passing in front of it.
