Where do you get your decals for CGW especially the Lucky Strike herald? Happy Jose
Microscale makes a CGW decal set. It has Lucky Strike logos in 3 sizes, a mix of numbers, and long decals that say “Chicago Great Western”. it also has several small “corn belt route” logos, which would be found near the front on the original CGW scheme. It has a few stripes, but it would be hard to use them for the original scheme. Microscale does make a set that contains the correct stripes (check eBay).
This set contains everything neccesary to paint either the “maroon dip” or “red dip” paint schemes. You might be able to use them for CGWs first scheme but it would be difficult.
Also, even tho it says “F-unit and GP” these would work for SD40s as well. And switchers.
Dingoix If you have a copy of Model r.r. Craftsman March 1990, there is an article in it for some 17000 gal. tank cars. The article was written by Bill Landis. He uses Athearn 62 foot tank cars modified for a 48 foot car with a 7 foot diameter dome.I think these are blockbuster cars. Also I like tankers. I made my domes from perfume bottle tops. If you dont have the issue I can send you copies of the pages. hmssmiley@aol.com is where Im at if you care to send me your address. Im near Albany, N. Y.
Interesting. I’ve heard about people using Athearn 62’ tankers for CGW.
Isn’t the CGW a fallen flag to UPRR? Allan.
By way of C&NW first, in 1968.
CGW merged with C&NW just after midnight on July 1,1968. So CGW is a part of UP but C&NW abandoned most CGW lines so most CGW never even made it to UP. I do know UPs highland yard in Waterloo, Iowa is ex-CGW.
We Modelers are weard when it somes to Trains.
Allan.
About decals for CGW.
I use Oddballs,I used to get them from a shop in Kansas I think, and he would ship them to me in the UK in less than a week.
I prefered these because I always thought Micro-scale’s Lucky Strike was far too red.
I say this based on reading Morning Suns CGW books-I have never been to the USA let alone seen your railroads!!!
Best wishes
Steve
