Question for Jacksonville Fla Railfans

If the effort to put N&W 611 back on the road again is successful, will we see a return of the Suwanee Steam Special? Have there been any discussions along those lines?

I don’t live in J-ville, but I have to ask. Where did the Suwannee Steam Special run? If it ran on CSX tracks forget a revival, no “fun and games” on CSX at this point in time. If it ran on the Florida East Coast then maybe, just maybe…

Does Norfolk-Southern run in Florida? If that’s the case then the Suwannee Steam Special may just return after all.

The NS goes to Jacksonville over the old Georgia Southern and Florida from Valdosta to Jacksonville. The Suwanee Steam Special ran from Jacksonville to Valdosta and back. The entire train was turned on a wye at Valdosta. It originated at Simpson yard in Jacksonville. It was turned on the wye at Valdosta and then returned to Simpson, sometimes late at night. Going toward Valdosta, there were a bunch of pig trains going to Jacksonville, so the SSS would have to take the siding sometimes. The return trip usually went faster.

That’s interesting Overall, I didn’t know that. See, like an old friend once said, “It’s a wasted day if you don’t learn something new!”
