Question for MOW workers or any other railroad worker that might know

I have looked at several railroad websites and I can’t find a per/hour or yearly estimate for Maintainace of Way Workers. I am wondering if anyone “out there” would be able to help me. I am thinking of applying for either Train Service or MOW after I graduate High School.

Depends on what you do for the railway.

Up here on the CP, seasonal labourers get about $16/hour or so for track maintenance, formen may get around 60k - 70k/year (that’s here in Canada), but that all depends on what kind over overtime they end up with, and how busy they are.

Generally the running trades makes (or has the opportunity to make) more money, but you have a chance at ending up with some decent work hours if you work MOW. Still doesn’t mean you won’t be called out in the middle of the night to clean up some derailment.

A trackrepairman on csx starts out at about $16.50 per hour. Equipment operators make from 18.00 to 28.00 per hour. Section foreman makes about 30.00.
