I have been watching a series of films, now DVD’s, originally shot by Emery Gulash in the sixties of ATSF operations. I have not seen any bay window cabooses, only cupola cabooses, on any of the trains so far. I thought, for some reason, that ATSF had bay window cabooses. Did that railroad ever have any bay window cabooses?
They only had 2 that they got when they bought teh TP&W in the the 80’s beyon that everything had a Cupola on it. Here is a link to Trainorders describing them. I used to see them in the early 80’s here in Streator on the Pekin local beyond that everything had a Cupola.
AS some one that had not lived in an area serviced by the Santa Fe, until moving out to Kansas in 2000.
The only style of Santa Fe Caboose I had seen in photographs was the ubiquitous Santa Fe style with the cupola perched to the roof towards the end of the caboose. There are a number preserved around here in public and private ownership.
THe Santa Fe bought the Cupola style from ACF (American Car&Foundry) in the early 20th Century. (Designated a CF style)
