Hi All
This question is aimed more at the Britsh as they are most likely to be able to help.
Can any of you give me the year month and which of the English
Model Railway publications.
There was an artical by I think Rev Audery??
On old time disk signals for garden railway’s the artical is instantly recognisable by the fact the disk and possably the down rod and other bits are Meccano parts
regards John
Hi John, this was a very long time ago and I only vaguely remember it, in fact I think I saw it as a copied article many years after the original. I’ll have a search for you but I wouldn’t hold out much hope.
Cheers,
Kim
Hi Kim
I know its a big ask given that the mag is probably now in the Royal and Ancient catagory.
I like you have seen the artical once.
It was a case of that’s clever but 4 X bigger than anything I will ever need.
I think I might have been just a little bit wrong. [][:(]
I will Keep my fingers crossed but I won’t hold my breath waiting[swg]
regards John
I don’t know the answer to this but i have visited Britain.

Well, no luck at all John. I’ve looked all over but absolutely zilch. I have to say though that I have had a wonderful trip down memory lane looking at all the meccano I’ve come accross, all of their products - forgotten about most - I had as a kid in the 50’s and 60’s. I think I might just be going to some meccano fairs in the very near future.
Cheers,
Kim
Hi Kim
I wish I still had my Meccano it all got left behind when we emigrated
I had to much of it to bring with us.
If any one is dumb enough to offer you the Meccano signal construction
set at a sensible price grab it with both hands and run.
They are probably about the right size for G even though they where marketed for being suitable to use with Hornby O trains
Don’t leave them out side but they would make a nice talking point and could probably be constructed to look nearly something like suitable for a US line
regards John
Hi Kim
I have managed to find out what the disc on the signal
I was asking about is.
Don’t have a Meccano part no but its an 8 hole disk with No boss 1 and 3/8" diameter.
Good enough for Stanbridges to find out if its still made and still brass
Just have to work out what dia would be best for the down rod and then handle.
Red front Green back for the disk then just have to work out what to use
for the big three lense lamp on the top that should have a Red Green
And White lense that will make it a three position signal.
Am thinking 18’ mast any thoughts on that.
regards John
Hey John do you recall asking elsewhere about what is different about you layout ?
Well mine is not only a tropical railway but also a botaincal one and it has its own inbuilt irrigation system and that pretty different!

Hi John,
Have a look at this:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/gansg/3-sigs/gndsigs.htm
Full of ground disk signals and a plan for building one with some measurements.
Cheers,
Kim
Hi Kim
Thanks for the link very interesting why do this to me now I want
to know where I can get speed signs going from 0 to 25 MPH in 5 mile steps
in the LNER style
Wrong kind of disk signal far too modern[:D]
Just to annoy you on the icon like pictures left hand end bottom row
rotating lamp indipendant signal I think thats the one I have in the shed
awaiting some TLC[:D]
I recieved some information from HMRS today not a lot but enough to turn the signal
on page 82 of Februarys Garden Railways into a working one.
No wonder I could not get it to work with rods[:O] the real one was operated by chain from a chain wheel attached to the arm that went to a chain wheel at a comfortable hight for the operator.
There is something funny in the rod arangement for later ones that I have not been able to solve.
Any way back to disk signals its the old disk and bar signals I am interested in
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/gansg/3-sigs/sigs-1.htm ilistrates them and they are easy to work sizes seem a bit hard to come by the GWR one aparently stood 60’ high so it must have had a pretty big disk on it
