Question for the experts: 2429 Livingston?

Was the all silver 2429 Livingston passenger car available only in set #1484WS, or was it available for individual purchase? The old Lionel catalogs show it for sale seperately, but all my books state that it was only available in the above mentioned set. Which is correct?

Good question. I’m no expert, but I think the all silver Livingston passenger car appeared as a pullman (#2429) and an observation car (#2483 in set #1464W). Back in the early 1950s, it was not uncommon for train/hobby shops to break up sets and sell items individually.

It was available for separate sale. When books, etc., talk about availablity in sets, they mean that of the various sets with the all-silver cars, only 1484WS included the 2429 – the others had only two coaches and an observation.
