Everyday I will post a new question of the day! the answer will be posted around 8:00 ET time![|)]I know its boring!
No I am heavly in to HO Scale.
Allan.
oh there is no answer to this question
Don’t like 3 rails. Just doesn’t look right.
Have 1 set, Ford Motor Co… Use the loco to pull the Looney Tunes cars. Wiley chasing Road Runner inside a gondola. Marvin at his canon with Bugs on a ladder at the muzzle and a boxcar with Daffy on one side.

I model HO for a scale prototype, but still like Lionel. Have sentimental pieces and like to run it around the Christmas tree. Besides, Lionel seems to be the starting point for many in this hobby.

I like Lionel but I think they are more toys then models.
Most likely not. I am already heavily into HO and G scales. Lionel is way to expensive for me. Now your probably thinking “Would’nt G be more expensive than Lionel?”. Not in most cases. Since I model narrow gauge, I use Bachamnn’s line of locomotives and rolling stock. They are of great qaulity and I can afford them easily.
I like it all [:D], but I try to limit myself to S scale. At the moment I just have a loop of Lionel track under the layout.
Enjoy
Paul
No way Jose. Too toyish. Plus like Allan said, some people are too heavily into HO Scale, like me.

I quite like the look of 3-rail O, but I already have too much invested in G to consider it. Having said that, I do search ebay UK for Lionel regularly and would consider buying a complete set if one came up at a price I could afford (though I’d also need a step down transformer to run the original 110V power pack on our 230v mains). I also keep an eye out for interesting solo items though not much makes it across the Atlantic - I can get hold of original 1960’s Hornby Dublo equipment more easily!
I wouldn’t ever go out and buy a Lionel set, but I like Lionel just as I like all trains. I’m an N scaler, and maybe one of these days will move on to HO, but that’s as far as it’ll go…

I like them all and I model in N scale.
I have some HO, which I may set up in a switching layout just for fun. I have a few pieces of Lionel sitting on display, but would consider a small set just for the fun of having it. I have thought about a LGB-sized piece, just so I can show a comparison between N, HO, O and LGB.
But I will stay with my beloved N scale, even as my eyesight fades. What the heck, even in O scale, I’d have to use the magnifiers anyway!
Darrell, quiet…for now
Even as a child, I never liked Lionel or their kind, because of the third rail. Wasn’t realistic enough. Didn’t look anything like what ran 1 1/2 blocks from my house. My first train set was a Marx windup. Two rails. From that I went to American Flyer as it too only had two rails, just like the real ones. At eight I discovered that there was this real small train made in a size called HO. Now that looked real to me! Been in HO even since.
I voted “familiar” because it was my first train at age 9, and I have seen them certainly many times over the years at shows and layouts. I like the trains, but I absolutely HATE the three rails…NOT RR to me at all , this isn’t a subway train is it !!
If Lionel had smartened up years ago, and converted to 2 rails, they might be “leading the pack” as the “Alpha” producer today wouldn’t they !!! Dumb, dumb, dumb !! Very nice product, but too d… stubborn to change.
How about not.
And if you really can’t resist, at least put a date on the subject.
Nope. Like Carey mentioned, I can’t get past the look of the 3rd rail. Too toyish (to me). With that said, I can still enjoy looking at a well-built O-scale layout, like I did down at the Great Smokey Mountain RR in Bryson City, NC. The museum display cases of American Flyer (S-scale) brought back a lot of fond memories of my youth. And It was as much fun to watch the trains “zoom” around the layout as it was to watch the little kids “zoom” around the layout.

P.S. I agree. Monto3, It would be good if you could either put a date on these, or add a colon and description so that one can be distinguished from another.
I am into HO now but had Lionel in the past. I kept 2 pieces of Lionel,a 1935 pseudo articulated streamlined loco and a PRR N5C caboose[:)].
“If it ain’t 1:1 scale AND generating revenue, it’s a TOY.”
Personally, I mix 3-rail O, 2-rail O and On30.
Well, one of my first train sets was a Lionel, and it runs great. A little 4-4-2 locomotive, and about five cars. But, that was from 1994 or so…
As of now, I don’t particularly like anything Lionel has come out with, and their quality in my opinion is slowly degrading.
Give me an MTH any day!
But I’m an N scaler, so I don’t buy O scale things.[8D]
