What got you into building your layout[?]
If I had a layout, it would be because I wanted more than a carpet and to have some nice scenery.[:D]
My father-in-law, who will not be able to fly his private plane for many more years, announced that he was getting into model railroading.
So I pulled down the boxes containing the modules I used when I was in the Army, ripped the plywood off of them… and started building on my own.
Now I have a lot more room… designing for it is interesting.
My dad is the one who got me into MRRing, and he got into it because 10 years ago he injured his back and needed something to do.

I put quite a bit of effort into the Christmas montage last year, and it got me to thinking that maybe I could do this year round. By 03 Jan of this year, I was pretty much consumed with the idea, and it went uphill from there. [^]
I discovered the joys of shelf layouts and their operational characteristics.
I scratchbuilt all these gigantic HO-scale steel mill structures, they needed a layout to live on![:D]
OK seriously though, I got a small inheritance from my late mother’s estate so I was finally able to afford to get my [garage] train room climate-controlled.
The first model RR I ever seen was one my cousin had in Wheeling Illinois. After seeing this it was off to the local Kmart to make the first purchase…Tyco, something like an F7 three cars and a caboose. Ok guys I’m gone
