I may be really off base here but it seems that I read someplace about problems with the Athearn RTR GP40-2 and GP35s. I really can’t remember if it was a detail problem or running problem. Does anyone know of any problems with these units or as my imagination working overtime. I am thinking about getting a couple of them if they have no major problems. Thanks in advance for your responses.
I have an athearn rtr GP40-2 and it works great and the details dont seem that bad. I dont know about the 35’s but the only thing different about the two is that the 35 is dcc ready and thats about it.
People have indicated problems with the MRC decoders they put in their DCC locos.
Okie
I recently bought a GP 35 and had some prolems with it. It was labelled as “Quick Plug” technology and so I bought and plugged in an appropriate TCS decoder. I was not able to get any response from it and I removed the decoder and re-tested it. It was good. To make a long story short, I found that the circuit board was mis-wired so I removed it, hard-wired the same decoder in and replaced the low voltage bulbs with leds. It is now running perfectly.
