Question on K-Line Construction Set

Hello All,

Need some help, want to by the K-Line Construction set with some of the construction operating scenes. My questions are these:

1.) Is this a good play value set for a 4 y.o?

2.) Is it better to make a full board or one that would slid under the bed?

3.) Layout a figure 8 or circle with passing sidings?

All input welcome and thanks in advance!

Frank,

  1. When I look at the K-Line construction set, I see an oval of track, an MP15, and lots of things that move - including interesting small parts. in my opinion, it might be fun for you but perhaps a bit much for a 4 year old. At this age, again only in my experience, they prefer more than anything else to make the train go fast. Frankly, at this age, I preferred my boys to wallow in wooden trains - fake-Brios and Thomas the Tank engine - give them lots of wooden track and see what they come up with.
  2. By ‘full board’ I take it you mean a 4x8 raised layout. In my opinion, this would be preferable to something that would fit under the bed, and have be dragged out. But given #1, it’s certainly safer for the train to race around and derail at ground level rather than from 3 ft. off the floor.
  3. A switch or two is always nice - manual switches he can move by himself. The tactile is good. Don’t really need a passing siding with one train, just make it a siding they can forward and back into…Of course, YMMV.

Thanks Doug,

I have to confess that I never even throught of the Brio & Thomas! Thanks for the idea.
