I have a straight DC layout at this time. I need to know if I purchase a sound equipped Bachmann Spectrum Engine if it will run on a DC system. I plan to convert to DCC in the future.

Yes. All sound decoders manufactured after about 2005/6 have the capacity to auto-detect the current offered them at the rails. They adjust if they are reset/set at the factory defaults, or if the owner has modified the decoder CV settings and set CV29 with a value of 38.
