Question on the LL/Walthers low-hood GP30

Does the undecorated GP30 model come with both bloomberg and AAR trucks? And does it also come with a non-dynamic brake hatch too? I need to know for when I start building some Soo Line GP30s. They were all non-dynamic brakes and most had AAR trucks.

Thanks,

John

Best to email Walthers custoomer service direct to find out what the current policy is. They are very helpful.

Why don’t you e-mail or telephone Walthers?

The dynamics-nondynamics would be a plate to go into the fan opening, and some blank pieces to go into the sides where the grills would have been. Might be included.

The Alco trucks are a bit different from the EMD trucks. The wheelbase is different, and the sideframes do not fit in the wrong truck. Would have to call-email Walthers to see if you could get what you need. They did make some Soo GP30s with the proper details, 1st or second release.

I bought undec GP30 phase II’s when they were first introduced by P2K, and they did have the plates to model a non-dynamic brake equipped engine, but did not have the AAR trucks.

Ok thanks guys

I emailed walthers customer service and am awaiting a response.

I would assume that if the original P2k GP30 had non-dynamic plates (yes I knew it wasn’t hatch I just couldn’t think of the right word) then the new one probably does too. Walthers website says that they include either bloomberg or AAR trucks depending on the prototype so I would assume that the undec model comes with both then.

Thanks

John

Probably not, you would have to order the undec version of the appropriate protoype. However you might be able to just order the AAR sideframes from the service department, (both model versions have the same wheelbase).

Well I got a response from walthers and I thought I’d post for anyone else who wants to know. The undecorated version of the P2K GP30 does come with non-dynamic plates but it does not come with AAR sideframes. The frames need to be ordered separately but unfourtunately Walters has only one pair of sideframes left in stock. LOL that’s only enough for one truck! If there is another run of the locomotive more sideframes will be made available. Guess my SOO GP30s will be a little unprototypical for a while. [|(] [|(] [|(]!

E-bay and train stores that do consignment orders could be a source for parts for your locomotive. I cant imagine that it would be hard to get the trucks you need for such a commong locomotive. I have 2 P2K GP30s from Norfolk & Western but I cant tell you what trucks they run. Honestly I am not a rivet counter so I dont really care if the trucks are exactly 100% correct, so long as it all looks good.
