Asking a question here, when the Amtrak F40PH’s got fitted with ditch lights, did they keep their strobes as well, or were the strobes removed?
Thanks for your help guys.
I miss those double-pulse strobes. Perhaps this thread over at Train Orders will give you some insight…

Take care, Ed
Back in the summer of 1995, I was living just off the Heidelberg College campus in Tiffin, Ohio between my junior and senior years. Since I didn’t have to get up for work on the weekends, I’d head over to the tracks on Friday and Saturday nights to watch trains and catch the Broadway Limited before it was discontinued that fall. The F40PHs that I saw still had strobes in addition to the ditch lights. I can still recall hearing the train as it entered the west side of town, seeing flashes in the night sky in the distance, and then the lights as the train came across the river and past campus.

Was that an Amtrak Phase III or Phase IV?
Phase III, never saw Phase IV on the Broadway.

I do not think too many F40PH’s got the Phase IV paint scheme. I suspect more converted ‘Cabbagage’ cars got the Phase IV scheme than actual operating F40PH’s.

And even most of the cabbages are still in Phase III.
