Question regarding DCC / DC Locos Currently on the Market

Hi!

Are the locos now on the market advertised as “DCC” or “DCC/Sound” able to be used on a DC power sourced layout?

I understand that sound and other unique features would probably not be workable on a DC layout, but my question is "will the loco run/operate as a regular DC loco would do?

If the answer is yes (I suspect it is), is this universal, or are there exceptions?

Thank you,

Yes and no. Practically every DCC equipped locomotive today will run on a DC layout, but some of them don’t run well on DC. For a sound equipped locomotive you’re not going to get the sounds on DC that you do on DCC, and you’re not going to have control over many of the sounds with DC; plus you can’t change any of the sounds.

You can run dual mode decoder equippted engines with or without sound on 12 volts. The secret is a very steady hand on the throttle after a required voltage is met.

Sounds like whistles etc can be activated by a add on device like Qarc for QSI and others.

Eventually you will find that DCC offers you full functionality and easier operation of these dual mode engines.
