I recently downloaded the Altas RTS program to build and get ideas for my layout that I am creating. After some troubleshooting I have been able to figure out the program, but I have run into a problem. After I draw out about a 1/3 of the layout it starts to slow down and eventually locks up and then goes into non responsive mode. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what I can do to fix this. I am getting frustrated for working on my layout and then poof all my work is gone. Please help. Thanks.
Depending of the speed of your computer & amount of memory - it will slow down with large/complex track plans. My track plan fills a 25’ by 20’ area and it slows down when making changes on my desktop computer(2.4Ghz AMD processor with 2GB of memory. On the dual core, 3Ghz laptop with 4GB of memory - it does not slow down when making changes. I suspect the entire track plan has to be loaded in memory and I may be pushing the limits of the old ‘train’ computer!
I am trying to creat a 5 x 10 layout for N scale. I wouldn’t have thought that would have been that large. Maybe I will try to go with a simple mainline and then work from there. Any other ideas??
Save the file often. That why when your computer locks up you have the saved file to go back to and begin again without starting all over again. Do a few things, save, reload, do a few more, save, reload, By working this way when your computer locks up you have the saved file to start with. It may take time but you will get it done.
I have done this but when I go back to the file it doesn’t want to load correctly. I tried working on a project like this but then it didn’t want to load. Why wouldn’t it boot up correctly?
Run “Disk Cleanup” to clean out cookies and temporary files. Change your Virtual Memory settings to used the maximum recommended amount of disk space in lieu of memeory. Run Disk Defragmenter.
