Questions about Circus Train to San Antonio

We have tickets for the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus in San Antonio on June 29. If possible, we would love to watch the workmen unload the train (at least for awhile), and to watch the animal handlers unload the animals, as well. Is there anyway to find out as to where in San Antonio the circus train will arrive, and when? How can we find out when the animal parade will take place? We don’t live in San Antonio, so we don’t have easy access to any San Antonio newspapers (though I have a web address for one newspaper).
Thank you very much.

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Blue Unit Circus Train will be travelling to San Antonio from New Orleans. The train routinely leaves around 6 or 7am. It will likely arrive in San Antonio Tuesday morning, July 28. Your tickets are for Opening Night on the 29th. The stocks will be spotted in the same location they have used every time the Circus is in San Antonio, a siding close to the Alamodome.
The Animal Walk usually occurs an hour or so after the stocks are spotted. Because of the length of the run from New Orleans, it is possible (if not likely) that the train will be late. Local media are frequently alerted to the time of the train’s arrival.
Your newspaper website is one source of info, as are the websites of local television stations.
Enjoy the show!

Dear Venardos,

Thank you very much for your information on the circus train. This is an honor. I truly appreciate it. According to MapQuest, a siding seems to run almost right next to the Alamodome. Just how close it really is, I don’t know. I’ll certainly keep your information in mind. We’re, indeed, looking forward to the show. Once again, thank you.

Your best bet is to park at the Amtrak station (right next to Sunset Station). This is off Commerce Street in downtown right off of IH37/281. Just follow the signs for either the Amtrak station or Sunset Station. This is right next to the Alamodome (which is kinda hard to miss). The right of way is about 30 yards from the Alamodome. One of the circus trains was in Colorado Springs last weekend and was a pretty impressive sight. There is also a Southern Pacific mikado on static display at Sunset Station to check out. Being Tuesday morning you should get to see some Amtrak action. The east bound Sunset Limited and Eagle will probably be there. Enjoy your time in San Antonio!!

Dear csmith9474,

Thank you, too, for your valuable information. I appreciate it very much. I’ll keep the Southern Pacific Mikado at Sunset Station in mind. And we’ll keep your information in mind. We’ll look for the Sunset Limited and Eagle, too. I’m sure we’ll enjoy our stay in San Antonio. Once again, thank you.

Here is an update on the Ringling Brothers Blue Unit Circus Train’s arrival in San Antonio.
The train is scheduled to arrive in San Antonio at 9am Tuesday. It will ‘spot’ the stock cars at 350 Hoefgen Street at 11am. The Animal Walk should happen an hour or so later—just in time for local TV stations noon news broadcasts. The walk is about a mile to the Alamodone. (The coaches will be spotted ten miles or so away.)

The key word here is ‘scheduled’. The train can be late for a variety of reasons.

Hope this info helps!
