questions about locales of structures

Ok here are my questions.

  1. Should I move track labeled 1 to track 2? To keep the main off the “town” track.

  2. If I do move track proposed in question 1, then would I flip the crossover labeled 5?

  3. Where should I locate a small station that will travel from town to staging and back? Just for some small traffic.

4)I also want a lumber yard that the cut lumber from the mill will go to be stored and sold. And also some of the lumber will get moved on to the next town via staging. Where would be a good location of that facility.

I also plan on having a furniture/coffin maker on-line somewhere in town. These will make up majority of the structures that will be serviced by rail. I may have a general store of some sort also receiving goods, but will probably have an open air team track to supply for different structures.

Tracks labeled A and B are the entrances to staging underneath the logging sites. At this point the tracks above will be around 6" higher then the ones below going to staging. They will slowly be getting higher to around 7" above staging tracks by the end of the logging line. I could have staging track “A” be east and “B” be west, or something like that.

For those that haven’t been following along in previous posts, this will be HO. I think I may switch ideas to the pacific northwest instead northeast. 1920’s-30’s. Check out my plans, and ponder my questions… And let me know what your thinking. Thanks a lot.

  1. Yes.

  2. I can’t tell which way the crossover is from the drawing, but I would use right hand switches. Really you don’t need a crossover at all.

  3. Very curious phrasing, is the station really traveling? I would put the station on track 2 near the water tower.

  4. Any place you can fit it.

Thanks for the input. I had meant to say that the passenger train will travel from town to staging and back. I was just looking for a good spot for the station so the pass. train would could move freely, and not be directly on the main. My passenger train will be only about 3-4 cars and the engine.

  1. Yes, swap 1 and 2.

  2. No. The siding should act as a passing track.

  3. I would make it the middle building on the swapped track 2. If the other building are industries, move them out from the center to the dead end sidings.

Something like this maybe? #'s 2 and 5 are labeled the same because I’m unsure which place I like. #2 I like because of the pathway from staging to station, turn engine, back to staion and then back to staging… Less traveling on the main this way. But then #5 is more in the center of town. I realized just now I haven’t fully labeled pic/plan… HO scale… The grid is one foot squares.
