Questions about Sperry Rail Employment

I have been verbally offered an inspection position with Sperry Rail. Is there anyone out there who can tell me the good and bad about this job?

In particular after a two to three week trip how much time do you have off? What about after a 2-3 month trip, how much time off?

How long is the average workday and do you work weekends? Sundays in particular…are you paid weekly or bi-weekly?

Breifly describe what type of confined space work is involved and are the health benefits good?

Thanks in advance,

Trayedog

Those are all excellent questions to ask the person who offered you the job, or your interviewer, if you have a formal interview.

While we all strive to be as factual as possible here, if we don’t work for Sperry, or know someone who does, it’s all hearsay anyhow.

It’s one of those companies you don’t hear about too often…

As long as you can ride in a old Doodlebug, particuarly the #137 (ex-Soo Line M-1) why not???

Trains had a piece about Sperry a few years ago.

I met a guy who worked for a rail service company working in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, his home was in Pennsylvania, he had not been home for 7 months, he said this is very common and he had been doing this for 9 years, I told him he was nuts, he had 3 children and a wife and seemed to think this was O.K. Hope he is still "alive’’ (this is a life???)
