Questions for My latest Project, (pix included)

Guys,

I’ve been working on this Athearn BB SD40-2 with detailing, but I need to know if there is somthing I can do to make the area that is void around the couplers to be more prototypical?

The back is my main concern since Athearn BB’s have the opening where you slide the shell over the coupler. What can be done? Should I build it up with Styrene?

Here is my progress so far. I added plastic hand rails, ditchlights, hoses, plow, grab irons, lift rings, roof conduit, antennas, visors, number boards, and upcoupler lever (not sure what you call it). Next I will add windshield wipers, horn, and a few little details around the fuel tank and call it good. What do you think? It’s my first time doing these kind of extreme details on my own.

I don’t have an answer for you, but did want to say that it looks awesome!

The most common way is to cut the coupler pad off the frame. Then mount a Kadee box and couple on the shell. You’ll have to build up a mounting pad on the under side of the shell. Then you’ll be able to fill in the gap in the pilot.
