I saw two conrail former conrail engines, here in Syracuse NY today with yellow numbers 8664 and 8845. Does this mean they are owned by CSX or not.
Here is some food for thought. If CSX or NS went bankrupt, what would happen and what would be the next step.
Thanks Matt. [}:)]
Yes, the yellow road numbers on former Conrail locomotives is an indication that they’re now CSX units. The numbers are shown on rosters as CSXT numbers.
Don’t even worry about either of those railroads going bankrupt.
as someone said already…the yellow numbers are CSX units… also… if they where to go bankrupt… the goverment would step in agin like they did to form the first conrail out of the ashes out of the bankrup companys in the 70s…

They are not about to go bankrupt. Before that happens they can logically ask for real estate tax relief, subsidization of certain freight services that are handled below true costs as social services, selling of “banked” unused property, rail lies, and rights of way. They can also reduce the costs of their providing service (at the expenses of somem customer satisfactio with that service.)
…I’ve seen the question of possible bankrupt action on the part of CSX several times …Why is this so much of a concern now…The rails are carrying more tonnage now than they posibly ever have…and I suspect with much less numbers of employees while doing it and of course we know everything has been pared down to the bone in most categories.
