I built my n-scale using the bachmann dcc system, now I want to change back to convention.
I have a Kato Alco RS-2 with a digi-trax decoder, where can I get the original light board? If anyone has some floating around, i would swap the decoder for a light board.
Second, I have a HO scale 2-6-0 Mogul from IHC, I want to install a steam sound decoder from MRC. How hard is it to install? Anyone know of any links on the web that has pics? i checked tonys trains and no luck so far.
If you already know how to install sound, then the 2-6-0 should be an easy one to put it into. There’s tons of room for speakers in the tender. Both the engine and tender pickup electricity, so there’s wires connecting the engine and tender.[:D][:D][:D]
Dont put in an MRC decoder they are not worth the box they come in. As for the digitrax decoder, is it not dual mode? If it is you can run it DC for now and if you ever want to go back to digital you have no extra work to do. Just curious, why go back to DC?
I put a SoundTraxx DSX Sound-Only decoder and speaker into an IHC 2-6-0’s tender and a TCS M-1 micro-decoder into the locomotive to run the motor and lights. This way, you don’t have to fool around with adding wiring between the tender and locomotive. You can program both decoders to the same address.
mainly due to the size of my layout, (2x4)
I want to buy a couple more engine, but dont really want to invest in decoders. so if I go back to dc, I can run any loco. I guess I can always use channel 10
and just have to put up with the buzzing.
Right now most of my train funding is going to my O-gauge toy train layout.
