Questions On "Police Cabooses".

I recently picked up a Southern Pacific caboose the is painted for the SP Police. I have seen others, more notable the the UP. Tonight, it got me thinking how these were used? Did the stick on the back of the train for watching, or maybe used to transport arrested riders held in far off posts. Any info or stories would be great.

Thanks for the links Eric, very cool indeed. The passenger car is something that caught my attention. My favorite spot is along the Sunset route to rail fan and does run pretty cloe to the borders in some places. Very cool.

Still see cabeese (police or otherwise) on high dollar moves, military trains, AECX moves, munitions trains, PanTex trains and so on. Part of the fun with SP’s cars is they were often sent out as a deterent, try guessing if the car was occupied or not.
