Did the signal that says “WAIT” and “2 TRAINS” to the right ever turn on? Does it still?

If you look closely, its a stop light. The lower bulb says “train” and will light up when a train is coming so you know to stop, because you sure cant hear the deafening horn and annoyings gate bells…lol
Sorry man, that’s not true. When their is a train, the signal does not light up. I have seen that myself. I am asking if when their were two trains would it light up.
Yes two trains would light it up Its to keep people from running the gates after one has gone by. Bet that doesnt work though .
From the picture it appears this crossing does not have gates. If this is true maybe these signals would indicate that the warning lights are still flashing because another train is approaching and not a malfunction of the crossing warning signals? I don’t know for sure but I would think the lights flash alternately between “wait” and “2 trains” to attract attention.
I would guess that the signal probably does work as intended. It would appear that the lights on the conventional signal were recently replaced with new LED lights. If the other signal had become obsolete, it probably would have been removed when the conventional signal was upgraded.
This probably isn’t a bad idea, even on crossings where gates are present, just to make people aware that such a situation can, and does, arise. I think that most of the pedestrian fatalities at crossings and station platforms that I remember are due to the victims being unaware of the second train in the area.
I might butcher the spelling, but I believe Harrington KS, south of Junction City has a sign like that as the throat of the SP (now UP) yard crosses the citys main street. It actually does work as you have to cross I think 4 tracks that are very busy, at least used to be. I want to know how it works?
Those lights are definately not LED. Those are a polarized crossing signal lights. Very rare. IOnly these 2 in Franklin Park, and a few in Canada
Never seen anything like it, but we used to have a sim ilar one that faced a side street and warned of a train around the corner. long since removed.
The bell is electronic…
The “Wait” and “2 Trains” signals look like they’ve been there a while.
