quick question about cookie cutting

Im in the process of mapping out my n scale track plan on the plywood. after im done i will use a jigsaw to cookie cut it.

How much space should i leave on each side of the rails. Im using atlas code-55

What scale?

I used 2-1/4" total width on my N-scale layout. If I were to do it again I would probably plan out my access roads along with the right of way and make them a bit wider in some spots to make room.

Heres a link to some shots of mine.

Thanks spidge. im using n scale.

so you measured 2 1/4 for all single track elevations when you cut it?

Cut it where you want the ground to “fall away.” Cuts aren’t necessarily at the edge of the roadbed. Tracks aren’t always “on the edge.”

Mark

That is correct.

Also, take what Mark said to heart and plan some if not all your scenery and structures. Don’t overthink it to where you hesitate so much you never get started, but keep it in the back of your mind as you are cutting.

great! thanks mark and spidge.
