I would like to know what the correct (prototypical) colors are for the Virginian FM Trainmaster. I have seen black and yellow and blue and yellow. Thanks in advance.

This was a COAL road, Black Diamonds, Black and Yellow.
But doesn’t Blue and Yellow look good. The reflection of a blue sky does make a glossy black look blue.

By the way Williams does it both ways the blue came in the set ( Tidewater express) but they also sold the black stripe separate and its not that hard to add TMCC if you want it.
If you consider the Williams, caution, their black and yellow Virginian colors do not match up with any other companys TM.

I assume you are talking about the yellow, since black is black. [:D]
I would only be buying one of them, so it’s not really an issue. And one could always “fudge” on the colors by saying the real loco’s colors changed with age. LOL…it wouldn’t really be fudging since real locos colors DO change/fade with age. I’ve seen UP locos that were freshly painted next to ones that were quite old and the yellow color is certainly different.

I was thinking about TMCC and sounds for it. Maybe even a full conversion to Proto 2 if I could have smoke with it.
Just thought I’d let you know. The choice is yours. The TM’s are not the only ones with funny shades of color. And yet others are dead on. I was hoping WBB would correct this but they have contuined the strange tradition.
sir james: I certainly appreciate the heads up. After the Jersey Central fantasy orange-blue locos, I’ve become a bit more careful about proto colors. But if they are close to original, I’ll make due. SInce yellow-black appears to be the correct colors for the Virginian, I’ll go with that choice. I know the blue-yellow looks nice, but I prefer to go with as close as possible to original.
You were almost there… highlight your url/link, and then click on the “link” icon above - it appears as 3 links of a chain between the “insert a table” icon and the “unlink”(broken chain link) icon. A dialog box will pop up for you to insert the url, and to choose whether to open in current window or a new one(I usually choose “new” so folks don’t get drilled down too far past the original page).

Some, of my friends complain that they are unable to open links I send them.
I believe, it’s part my fault, as i’m computer illiterate and I’m still learning at my old age and also, my neighbors and I have been having commo. problems in the neighborhood.
Just, like Lionel’s C.of N.J’s. Blue and Orange scheme is beautiful, Lionel;s Virginian Blue and Yellow scheme is, also, beautiful, compared to both of the prototype colors.

And I’m no electrical person so if i say its easy its easy. I was scared but went to there site and downloaded instructions and think it took me maybe an hour with bouncing back and forth but it is a great item and tickled I have it.
Even adding the sound unit was a breeze the hardest part to me was trying to figure out how to add the micro switch for the run/program part heres a pic of what I did i still need to fill in a little and touch up with some paint but as a whole think it was great location as its easy to access and didn’t have to drill thru metal frame. also they give you this like cup to put the speaker in to put inside for the sound I had to cut off the 2 tabs that is suppose to be for screwing it to something and it fit right in the cab up to the area that looks like for a speaker then used glue gun to hold it in place.

Well fooey.[:(!] Just when I get all jacked up to add the Virginan FM to my collection, I discover that there are NO scale Virginian cabooses available. MTH lists two, but neither one seems to be available. . Lionel makes a nice scale Virginian caboose, but of course, it’s in the bogus blue with yellow trim paint scheme. From what I’ve been able to find out online, Virginian used a conventional red w/yellow trim paint scheme for their cabooses. Oh well. [:(]

Go on line to M.T.H. and inform them of the item that you want.
They have a computer link system to locate their items, in one, or a few hobby shops and the store may have it.
M.T.H. will give you the info. of the store, or stores.
I was able to get one of M.T.H’s. D.L.&W./L. ‘Phoebe Snow’ boxcars, that way.

Ralph: Did that first thing. That’s where I saw the (2) red cabooses. They had no links and a Google search turned up nothing.
My luck is when I have the money to buy what I want, the stores just happen to be out of stock.
Also, I see something I like, but it’s four, or more, years old, my local shops are out of it, I have to search and the shop which has it is 800 miles, or more, away and the item is of a railroad near me!
There, has to be a clearing house, of sorts, who buys-up these older items, like some little businesses do and you find out about them in want ads.
This way we might find what we want quickly and hassle free.
There’s some profit in it, like the stores who buy fire damaged goods, to resell at a discounted price, of course the items we want have to be in good shape.
I believe, the manufacturers don’t buy, or take back the older items, probably because it’s not profitable and also, they don’t have available room.

I mentioned this before and I’m going to mention it again.
The three Post War Lionel F.M. T.M. engines that I believe are beautiful are the Grey and Maroon, with Maroon roof Lackawanna; The Blue and Orange C. of N.J. and the Blue and Yellow Virginian.
BUT---- ALL THREE DO NOT HAVE PROTOTYPICAL COLOR PAINT SCHEMES!!!
