Model Railroader Prototype information for the modeler

Hi,

I am recently getting back into the hobby. Although I am familiar with a few popular lines, I was wondering if there was an online site that had pictures and examples of the various lines. I’m trying to figure out which line I would like to model. I really enjoy the concept of prototyping, as i like detail, etc. About ten years ago I was really attracted to the April '93 article on modeling an SP GP60. i had bought all the parts but never got around to modeling it, and gave away all my modeling gear (!).

So yeah, I’m slowly getting back into it and realized i never reallly got to know any “real” lines very well… i didn’t grow up around rails and don’t have a preference at this point. If anybody could point me in a beginners direction so that I’m not overwhelmed at this point, that would be much appreciated.

Hi.Have you tried this site www.trainweb.org it has a lot of railfan links and historical society links.Another good site with a lot of links is the NMRA one it is at www.cwrr.com/nmra/ I used to know of a site with a lot of photos but I lost the address. After I posted this I found that lost site.Its called Fallen Flags and the link to it is www.rr-fallenflags.org/ there are thousands of photos posted there. Joe G.

www.BOrail.org and Search for the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society as well as the Western Maryland. There are many roads out there you may even be inspired to create your own road such as “Pezagent Lines”

What ever you like is ok in this hobby. There may be those that say the Santa FE never went to Maine. But with modeler’s license you can purchase a Santa FE engine for your railroad.
