Qustions For Car System

where can you buy a car system for scale: HO
Please help me
Thank you

If you mean self-propelled cars, Faller makes a car and road system. It’s quite expensive, though.

I’ve still got my old Aurora Thunderjet 500 slot cars with the striped roads and HO grade crossing. I had a layout once where we wired the cars to operate in opposite directions, just like on a real road. When they hit a train, it was real, too. The train may have derailed the lead truck, but the car went flying! I haven’t seen another car set with an actual grade crossing since.

I’ve occassionally looked at those Aurora Thunderjet sets on ebay, but they’re getting hard to find.

I wish slot cars had stayed HO. They say HO on the box, but they’re actually bigger. If I remember right, there were a few different “slot” car sets that started up back in the day as a compliment to toy railroad sets, I believe it’s how we got the slot cars we have today. I seem to remember a slot car set from a few decades ago that actually had a crossing included that tied in with HO rail (is that the Thunderjet set?)…but as slot cars progressed somebody got the scale wrong, and next thing you know, MRR HO and slot car HO are two very different things.

That’s how I got into trains. Somone gave me a slot car set that happened to have a train and crossing with it. I liked the train better![:D]

I do find it odd that with all the advances in the hobby, no one else has introduced a system similar to FALLER, which seems to be popular with Europeon modelers…

It would be so neat to have a town look alive with cars, trucks, and buses moving about. I certainly hope we won’t have to wait 20 years!
