I would like to know please, if there is anybody on this forum or otherwise operating HO this way
Somebody wrote in to MR recently that was running 3 locos on his layout that were powered by batteries, using modified DCC decoders and an R/C controller. He didn’t give details of his modifications, but did say that he gets about 3 hours run time per battery charge (which he did on a siding). Never have to worry about dirty track that way…
If you are talking about battery power locos, to the best of my knowledge, battery technology has not progressed to the point of making that practical. The batteries would run down too quickly. I have predicted that we will eventually have power cells small enough and powerful enough make them practical. I could be wrong, but I don’t think we’re there yet.
What about using one of the “DV Camera Batteries” that would fit in an HO scale boxcar? Could fit 2-3 of them (or more) in a “dummy unit”.
Easily rechargeable too.
You mean something like this?
