Realism aside, could these 85 footers run on 22 inch radius track. I recieved a few as a gift and would hate to see them go to the shelf and gather dust.
Unless Walthers specifies a limitation, I don’t see a problem from a physics or engineering point of view…although I would not consider doing it anyway. Walthers, for example, does specify that their heavyweights require a minimum of 24", and I didn’t notice such a restriction during my hasty look at the link.
If you have more gentle curves and some longish tangents, enjoy them. Where it gets tight, treat it like the prototype would and slow down. BTW, I warn folks that even jumping from 22" to 28" won’t look appreciably different, so if the looks don’t bother you and they track well, go for it.
maybe… maybe not. You’d have to either get ahold of a box or some other thing that tells the minimum radius.
Dont have the box. The only info i have is that they are walthers 85 footers. Looks arent of huge importance to me so i’ll try running them and if the need arise, make some modifications.
I have Walthers heavyweight & streamline 85’rs. Simple answer - some do & some dont! I have 2 that the boxes stated 24" radius that will run on 22 & 20" radius! I have heavyweights & streamliners that didn’t run on 22" out of the box… You can cut the center sill & Dremel away part of the trucks to clear the coupler pocket [banghead] a fair amount of work, but it’s worth it if all you have is a 4x8’ layout![8D]
