Rail Crossings

Has anyone converted a pre-built railcrossing from another make of track to fit and run with Kato track. If so, I would like to know what other railcrossing track brand you used to do this conversion.

Thanks,

Gary

If you remove the Kato track connectors, Kato code 83 will mate with other code 83 brands pretty well. I have an old Walthers “O.L. King and Sons” coal dock that uses Walthers code 83 track on the bridge, it’s a re-tread from my previous layouts. Now that I’m using Kato Unitrack, I was able to join it’s track with the regular Walthers track using the Walthers joiners.

Only problem I had was the joiners are a little loose on the Kato track, so I carefully soldered the connections. I have been running it about a year now with no problems. I’m sure you could do the same thing with say an Atlas code 83 snap-track rerailer/grade crossing, but you’d have to put some roadbed or something under the Atlas track to compensate for the Kato built-in ballast / roadbed of course.
