Rail Excursions In Ohio, Nickel Plate #765 and NS OCS.

  1. Are there any rail excursions going on right now in ohio with a steam engine, if so, where?

  2. Also where’s Nickle Plate #765 at right now? If she’s running, where’s she at? Is she going to be coming through Ohio this year, if so, where?

  3. Where’s the NS OCS Train with the F7-Units at right now?

First try 765.org (ft wayne railroad historical society)

She is in her shed in new haven indiana and they are open on weekends.check the web site for hours.Last I heard she was scheduled to appear with the 1225 at the train festival in ossowo michigan.(GET YOUR TICKETS NOW).I am also very hopeful she will be taken on the NS wabash line through NW ohio to Michigan for the festival.Thats alot of hoping but thats the best I have for now.

I looked on the internet and found two lines of the NS Wabash. One that goes to Toledo and one that’s in the far northwest part of Ohio. What towns are along this route so I know where the 765 might run and so I can get an idea where the towns are, if this makes sense.

You would want to be on the line that goes through Montpelier ohio.It is the ns line that is their automotive corridor(well slow for now). Also cp trains have trackage rights on this line and they use a connection at Butler Indiana to go west on the former NYC waterlevel route. While looking in montpelier you might also see shortline Indiana northeastern.they trade cars with Ns here. The wabash line to toledo is abandoned east of liberty center ohio.the rest of the track is the maumee and western shortline.hope this helps.

It’s good to hear 765 might be back on the rails again this year…

Sure wish they could bring her down to Muncie as it did many times back in the 80’s

Trivia: I remember seeing 765 somewhere in Ft. Wayne many years ago on display with a chainlink fence around it…{if I remember correctly}, and that was before she was renovated to make her operational.

I believe I stopped and took a pic. of it inside that fence…but where that photo is…Must have it somewhere.

Modelcar

thats is correct.when they did the restoration they borrowed some parts from another engine that is stored in lincoln park in Lima ohio. This engine also has a fence around it as well.Another point on the 765 if it does go on the wabash route I would bet NS would be towing it.

[:)The Monticello Railroad Museum hopes to have Southern 401 (2-8-0) under steam this summer. For more information and pictures of the renovation go to the museums web site at: www.mrym.org

Rob

Stored in Altoona, PA. Would suspect they won’t get out too much this year. NS is really trying to save a nickel everywhere they can…

Masters and Kentucky Derby trains would be a good bet, though.

That should be “Owosso.” BTW my avatar is NKP 777 in service in Buffalo in 1958

765 was on display in Fort Wayne on the SE corner of Clinton and Forth Streets just north of the St Mary’s River and downtown. The opposite corner (NW) is where the former NYC Freight House still sits. Back in the day, Clinton Street was Southbound US 27/US33/SR1 so a lot of people got to see it there as they sped through town.

Yes Mike, that’s just what I was doing as I came thru there…Traveling back from Michigan to Muncie. Didn’t remember why or what route I was on coming thru Ft. Wayne. I also remember on that run down thru there we got to running along side of RR tracks someplace, and I had to speed up to even my speed with the parallel passenger train beside me to the tune of about 90 mph. {just to see how fast he was moving…}
