But man, they’ve got two hump yards out there. I’ve always wanted to see how one of them things worked!

The new observation tower is a great facility and a credit to the town. Unfortunately, the North Platte yard is so large that very little of it can be seen from any one vantage point.

The bowl of one hump is clearly visibile with the hump itself in the middle distance. At one point, I think I counted four cars coming down the hump into their various tracks. The other hump is lost in the distance, perhaps beyond the curve of the earth. Actually, not quite that bad, but it is pretty had to discern any details.

Last year the UP was offering bus tours of the yards,but I haven’t checked the web site to see it that will be included this year.

DakGuy, this is a bit of an inside joke…I’ve been to their tower, and I work forty hours a week in another UP hump yard.
