I recently purchased a HO Rail Power Frame/Shell & Trucks. I have a AC4400/44-9 Hex Drive Motor with Spline/Worm Gear Assembly but the SPLINE is to Short…Anyone know where I can get Splines for this type (2 1/4") Rear & (2" Front)??? Or a Way to Make this for a Hex Drive??
I have checked the Athearn Parts list but nothing seems to be listed for this
Kato uses hex universals in their SD80/90 drive that should be the right length. I think they’re compatible with the Athearn drives, since Athearn’s Genesis drives (which is where their hex universals came from) were copied from Kato’s.
Another option you might want to look at is a universal coupling set available from Micromark (www.micromark.com) It is their number 83290. This uses a square drive shaft, and includes the ball and socket parts. You’d have to see if the socket bore diameters would suit the motor shaft you have. According to the Micromark catalog you can make universals up to 3-1/8 inch long, so you can make the exact size you need.
