Rail Roads & Holidays

I was at the BNSF Auburn yard today. There is a side walk I like to walk and watch the trains being built. I was taking my Sunday walk and noticed that there were only two trains in the Yard today. One of gondola and the other was just empty double stacks well cars. There are normally 15 or more trains in the yard . Is this because of Thanksgiving holiday?

Ya it looks like it’s gona be boring Thursday.

I just read on the employee’s site that the UP is planning to run the normal schedule. All major terminals and major interchange points will be open. Now, if the crews stay marked up…

Exactly Jeff, Tony Ingram of CSX (manager of rail ops) said the same thing, but there are many guys/gals at my terminal saying “Well, I get he gets the day off, the heck with him!” I need money so, I’ll be working. I know there will be a lot of layoffs this week; I’m wondering how many trains will be delayed due to the fact we won’t have enough crews???

This might explain it. The port of Seattle only has two ships arriving on 11/23 the next arrival is not until 11/26 and that is only one ship according to the ports web site. http://www.portseattle.org/seaport/cargo/shipschedules.shtml . With no arrivals there are no departures and no cargo so this might be the reason for the lack of trains in Auburn.
