We have had them on British trains for quite sometime. It’s a relief not to listen to the inane chatter of other passengers, not to bad if it is something important but most of the talk is garbage.
Queensland Rail in Australia operates quiet cars on its Brisbane commuter services. The first and last cars on 6-car sets are quiet cars.
I agree, they are a distraction and it’s getting worse each week! Way too much talking about anything and everything by a lot of people these days! From shows to Amtrak, people have to be reminded that others are tired of hearing other people’s business, or to shut off these devices prior to the show’s start. And some still don’t follow the rules of courtesy. I so often ask “why do so many people today have to be making so many calls?”
